Sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation
The European Union has imposed diplomatic and economic sanctions on the Russian Federation, which are becoming increasingly severe for well-known reasons. Sanctions restrict trade in individual sectors or with certain entities. Therefore, we recommend to observe the extra caution when trading property located in the territory of the Russian Federation and with Russian entities. In the worst cases, the entire contract may be thwarted or a fine of up to CZK 50,000,000 may be imposed.
Therefore, before concluding a contract, we recommend that:
- You always check whether the trade is not subject to the imposed sanctions. The so-called EU Sanctions Map (available here) will serve you well for this purpose. The map of sanctions provides a comprehensive listing of international sanctions imposed on individual countries. You can also search for specific persons on whom sanctions are imposed.
- When concluding contracts that are not yet subject to sanctions, you include clauses in them, which will regulate the legal consequences resulting from any newly imposed sanctions or other serious facts resulting from the warfare in Ukraine.
